Majid Namjou, secretary of the grassroots participation committee of the Arabeen Headquarters, said registration will be done online.

He said those who had received the permission in previous years should also refer to the relevant website to renew the permission.

More than 3,000 Moukebs are expected to be set up by Iranians to serve the Arbaeen pilgrims this year, according to the official.

He added that based on an agreement reached with the Iraqi side, the necessary equipment for Moukebs will be sent to the Arab country starting on the 25th of Muharram (July 31).

Moukebs are resting places with special facilities and services for pilgrims set up on roads leading to Karbala and elsewhere during the Arbaeen march.

Arbaeen is a religious event that is observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura. It commemorates the 40th day of martyrdom of Hussein ibn Ali (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam, who was killed by the army of Yazid I in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.

It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims from different countries walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. The distance can range from 80 km to 500 km or more, depending on the starting point.

This year’s Arbaeen is expected to fall on August 25, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon.
